Policy context – VAEAI, Yalca & Wurreker

VAEAI

The Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Inc. (VAEAI) is a community based and controlled organisation. VAEAI aims to develop processes for the involvement of Victorian Koori community members in decision making regarding education and training provision for koori students. VAEAI

Yalca

In 2001, VAEAI and the Victorian State Government recommitted to principles of Partnership in Education, under a new policy framework, Yalca: A Partnership in Education and Training for the New Millennium, koori Education Policy.
Yalca provides a long term policy framework relevant to all sectors of education and training. All education strategies and programs which are developed for and by Koori people must be supportive of the policy. VAEAI

Wurreker

The Wurreker Strategy was developed by VAEAI in partnership with the Office of Training and Tertiary Education (OTTE). Wurreker documents a collaborative and equal partnership between the signatories enabling the development of:

  • Policy and planning frameworks at local, regional and state levels involving koori community and TAFE
  • Systems and processes for allocating resources needed to support the Koori community achieving quality outcomes in TAFE
  • New approaches to foster an equal partnership between Koori communities and TAFE institutes and/or other training providers. The Wurreker Strategy
